Our Story: In the summer of 2016, we met at band camp. Yes, you heard it right, band camp. We were both instructors (flute & trumpet). We became fairly close during those 6 days of camp, and developed a friendship that carried on afterward, evolving over the course of the next 3 years. On July 27th, 2019, we officially started dating. Our time together has so far been beautiful and constantly evolving. We have endured several negative life events during our time, but have become even closer throughout those. Being able to see your partner weaken and crumble has given us a well-rounded and full understanding of what each of us needs in our times of greatest despair. We have learned patience, and our love has grown from this. We are absolutely certain we are marrying our God-given “the one”. The Proposal: We had planned a trip to Florida months in advance, during the time flights were cheaper still because of the pandemic. We were going to the Gulf side, and were looking forward to a trip we knew would be beautiful and memorable, even if a proposal hadn’t happened. We spent our first day at Sanibel Island, beach-combing. The following day, Cameron was very persistent about watching the sunset. Katie mentioned that it was going to be at 5:38 PM, and Cameron said “No, it’s at 5:37.” That was a weird comment. Well, at (very specifically) 5:05 PM, the sun was starting to set, casting a warm orange glow onto the beach. We walked out onto the sand, where Cameron led Katie to a table with 2 chairs, roses, champagne, and chocolate-covered strawberries. This had been placed by staff at Outrigger Beach Resort, because Cam had secretly been planning this evening with them for weeks. He got down on one knee and in a shaky voice asked Katie to marry him, and through tears, she nodded. Other vacationers behind us cheered, and we sat down to watch the rest of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico sunset. It was perfect, and a vacation to remember forever.
