Katelyn and Joe met the modern way: by swiping right on Hinge in 2018! Katelyn had recently moved to Los Angeles and was building her community from scratch, while longtime Los Angolan Joe was determined to find the love of his life. Their first date was at "Off Vine" where they confirmed that neither of them were secret serial killers (so far) — and they've been together ever since! A few of Katelyn and Joe's favorite memories from their time together: watching and ranking all Disney, Tarantino, and (currently) Ghibli films -- for science, traveling across to the world to the Galapagos Islands and then Italy, surprise theme park visits of the Disney and Universal Studios persuasion, perfecting their fish taco recipe, and braving through the world-changing events that was the pandemic together. Joe's proposal to Katelyn was a bit unique in that the nervous sweetheart, despite his eagerness to surprise Katelyn, couldn't help dropping clues. He kept asking her questions, such as "who are your favorite people in LA?", "do you want to go on a hike?" (never Joe's idea), "would you want me to propose with your parents' ring box?" (the night before), that weren't exactly subtle. The morning of, he also ended up running late (due to him coordinating with his siblings who were kind enough to travel from out of town to help), and told Katelyn "we're at Starbucks". Katelyn laughingly decided not to press who this "we" was, and enjoyed the drive with nervous Joe (who still thought he was very subtle) towards Malibu. Joe pulled off by the entrance to the beautiful waterfall trail to the side of the road where there was a view of the ocean. He told Katelyn he wanted to take some photos (also never Joe's idea -- she was more than certain then the proposal was coming). Katelyn pulled out her phone, wanting to help her stumbling then-boyfriend, and offered to take a picture and advised to avoid an area where someone had littered. Joe responded, "Yeah, I don't want to kneel in trash." Katelyn had a lot of loving compassion for Joe as she held back laughter while he paced, oblivious to what he had just said. The speech Joe had prepared in his head was gone, so he simply got down on one knee, and asked Katelyn to marry him. She said yes. After kissing him, accepting the ring, and realizing their sudden paparazzi were Joe's siblings in disguise, and then realizing she was so concerned with how he was feeling she didn't technically answer!
